50th CEOC International General Assembly hosted by TÜV AUSTRIA

From 29 May till 1 June 2010 the testing, inspection and certification community met in Vienna on invitation of TÜV AUSTRIA to discuss safety of products, installations and the environment.

More than 120 delegates attended the events organised by TÜV AUSTRIA and the CEOC secretariat in Brussels.

The high-level guest speakers of the annual CEOC conference, one of the major events in the testing, inspection and certification area, approached the theme of safety in a global society from various angles. Ministerialrat Dipl.-Ing. Göller from the Austrian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Family and Youth underlined the importance of independent inspection and certification for a well functioning society. The conference was thematically structured into three main parts: Environment and Climate change presented by Prof. Dr. Helga Kromp-Kolb; the new EU Internal Market Package and especially its Regulation on Accreditation and Market Surveillance which was illustrated by Mag. Othmar Karas (MEP), Jacques McMillan (Head of Unit of the European Commission DG Enterprise and Industry) and Daniel Pierre (Vice-President of the European Co-operation for Accreditation) and standardisation and conformity assessment explained by CEOC expert Mr Hinrich Schaub.

Safety aspects in various areas of CEOC members’ activities were debated in-depth during the afternoon expert technical sessions on conformity assessment; inspection; pressure equipment; occupational health and safety; non-destructive testing and machines, lifts and cranes. A special briefing about nanomaterials was provided by Dr. Steffi Friedrichs, Director of the Nanotechnology Industry Association.

The CEOC General Assembly was held on Tuesday morning. All events took place at the Imperial Riding School Renaissance Hotel.

Over the weekend, an enjoyable social and networking programme had been organised, including visits to cultural monuments in and outside the Austrian capital a Gala Dinner in the splendid settings of Klosterneuburg monastery nearby Vienna.
