Breakfast Panel Discussion “Cybersecurity: Certifying against risk – myth or reality?”

With the discussions on the Cybersecurity Act reaching the final stages both in the European Parliament and the Council, the Independent Testing, Inspection, Certification (TIC) federations, under the patronage of MEP Dr. Angelika Niebler organised on 15th May a panel discussion with key stakeholders to discuss the risks and challenges of a connected world and explore the various key actors’ views on the proposed solutions and evaluate their impact.

Key note speeches were given by the rapporteur MEP Dr. Angelika Niebler, Dr. Krasimir Simonski, current chair of the Horizontal Working Party CYBER in the Council, and Despina Spanou, Director DG CNCET. In the following panel discussion moderated by Hanane Taidi, Director General of IFIA, Steve Purser (ENISA), Philippe Vannier (Atos/ ECSO), Prof. Axel Stepken (TÜV SÜD) and Chiara Giovannini addressed different aspects of the proposal, such as the implementation phase, the role of ENISA as a key player, the question if certification should mandatory or voluntary, the role of self-assessment and the need for a future proof system. There was general agreement for the need of industry to play a proactive role and the commitment of member states to deploy this framework with a keen sense of urgency. A selection of pictures can be found here
