IFIA and CEOC International Joint Statement on the Cybersecurity Act

CEOC International and IFIA, the associations representing the independent testing, inspection and certification sector welcome the Council’s general approach on the Cybersecurity Act. The presented text offers a coherent approach and provides legal clarity on key concepts.

We particularly welcome the clear and coherent distinction between certification (i.e. third-party activity carried out by an accredited certification body) and self-assessment (i.e.  first-party activity carried out by the manufacturer or service provider). Restricting self-assessment to ICT products and services of low risk corresponding to assurance level basic is in our view the right approach.

We call on the co-legislators to swiftly adopt the Cybersecurity Act and to maintain the robustness of the current Council text.

IFIA and CEOC International also call on the legislator to ensure that the independent Conformity Assessment Bodies are represented in the Permanent Stakeholders Group and in the working groups of ENISA to be able to support the implementation phase with the relevant expertise.
